Beyond the Line

“Ah, look at all the lonely people.” In “Of Mice and Men”
There are a lot of lonely people. They don’t know what to do about there loneliness. Its not like they don’t have anybody, its just that they want more out of life. Some want to have the freedom to walk in any room they want, someone else want to be an actress and others just need friends.

“No one comes near”. Crooks in “ Of Mice and Men” are very lonely. He can’t go in a room without someone asking him what do you want. He’s forced to be lonely. Crooks are like Father McKenzie in the song “Eleanor Rigby”. They both work hard but nobody wants to be there friend.

“Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door.” This phrase goes with Curly's wife because she basically waits for opportunity. She wants to be an actress but her mother discourages her. Its not like she doesn’t have Curly but she wants more and Curly just cant give her that.

Candy is also a lonely person. His loneliness is different because he had a friend, or a best friend to look after. Carlson had killed his friend because he was too old. But Candy friend was a dog, and the only real friend he had. He had his friend since he was a puppy. Candy was hurt when he lost his friend. After that he wanted anybody or anything as a friend.

“ Where do they all belong?” In “Of Mice and Men” and “ Eleanor Rigby” the people are so lonely in so many different ways, but at the end of the day they just wanted somebody to talk to.
